Forgotten Sewer
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The level design project is a blocking game set in an underground sewer environment. The player evolves in a level where he must activate generators to restore power, unlock doors and explore blocked areas in search of gas cans to power the generators, as well as keys to open locked accesses. The concept is inspired by games such as the Metro series, and the puzzle and backtracking mechanics seen in the latest Resident Evil games.
LEVEL STRUCTURE
Scenery elements play an important role in immersion and progression:
-
BLUE : In blue are the structural elements of the sewers, such as valves, electrical conduits, water pipes and ventilation systems. They reinforce the authenticity of the environment, while visually guiding the player.
-
YELLOW : Keys and doors are marked in yellow.
-
BROWN : Brown are environmental obstacles that block the player's path, such as crates, collapsed walls and so on.
-
GREEN : Green are interactive elements in the scenery that enable the player to overcome certain obstacles, such as planks and ladders.
-
RED : Red are generators, fuel jerry cans and other levers or switches that the player must activate to progress.
OPTIMAL PATH
In the top-down image, the beige line represents the player's ideal path. The player must navigate this oppressive, anxiety-inducing environment to restore energy and escape the sewers.
AMBIANCE
The game's atmosphere is oppressive and distressing, plunging the player into a dark, hostile universe. The sewers are a confined environment, full of mystery and danger, reinforcing a constant sense of insecurity. The concept is inspired by the gloomy, immersive environments found in the Metro series, while borrowing gameplay mechanics inspired by the latest Resident Evil titles, where resource management, environmental puzzles and exploration are at the heart of the experience.
CONCLUSION
The idea is to create constant tension, where each new item activated or door unlocked brings both temporary relief and anxiety about what might await in the next area to be explored.
