Megafauna

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Megafauna is an open-world game project developed during my second year of studies, based on the concept of players capturing monsters and using them as mounts to explore a diverse and expansive universe made up of mysterious islands. Each island offers unique challenges, environments, and secrets waiting to be uncovered, creating a sense of discovery and adventure throughout the gameplay.

UI/UX DESIGN
In this project, I took on two key roles: User Interface/User Experience (UI/UX) Design and Level Design. For the UI/UX, I designed a dynamic and adaptable interface that responded seamlessly to different gameplay scenarios, from exploration to combat and inventory management. My goal was to create an intuitive system that enhanced the player’s immersion while making navigation clear and efficient, ensuring that menus and information never felt intrusive or complex.

LEVEL DESIGN
On the Level Design side, I created detailed maps, laying out multiple routes and pathways for players to explore. I focused on building environments that encouraged both vertical and horizontal exploration, allowing players to strategically use their monster mounts to traverse challenging terrains, from dense forests to towering cliffs. The variety of landscapes across the islands offered different gameplay styles, from fast-paced chases to careful, methodical exploration.

COLLABORATION
I also collaborated closely with the rest of the team to ensure that the world design, game mechanics, and narrative all came together cohesively, aligning the visual and gameplay elements with the broader vision for Megafauna. This involved not only creating the physical layout of the world but also considering how players would interact with it—designing landmarks for navigation, placing puzzle elements for added challenge, and ensuring a sense of progression as players moved from one island to the next.

CONCLUSION
Overall, working on Megafauna allowed me to develop a deep understanding of how UI/UX and Level Design can work together to create a rich, engaging, and fluid player experience in an open-world setting.
