The project is a single-player infiltration game with a strong narrative component, developed on Unreal Engine 5 for an immersive, fluid experience. Inspired by modern stealth mechanics and an authentic historical setting, it features strategic choices and asking gameplay where every action has consequences.
STEALTH MECHANICS
Infiltration is based on three styles of movement: standing up for fast progress, crouching to advance discreetly and lying down to disappear completely from enemy radar. Sneaking into the shadows and using elements of the scenery are key to avoiding detection.
STEAL MECHANICS
Stealing becomes an art, requiring a subtle approach to steal items from guards and villagers or to collect essential items for quests. Parkour and climbing give you total freedom of movement, allowing you to explore rooftops, scale walls or bypass obstacles without ever being detected.
KILL MECHANICS
Targets are eliminated with precision and discretion. Each assassination is a risk-taking exercise in which the environment, enemy vigilance and timing play a crucial role. In the event of danger, the radar echo takes over: when vision is obstructed, attention is focused on the surrounding sounds, allowing you to perceive footsteps, murmurs and movement through walls.
THE SOUND DESIGN
The sound design is designed for total immersion. Every sound is important, and enemies react to sounds as if they were in a realistic environment. A simple misstep or knocked-over object can jeopardise an entire mission.
THE NARRATIVE CHOICES
Narrative choices have a direct impact on the story, altering not only the dialogue but also the opportunities open to the player. Interacting with characters, whether guards or villagers, allows you to gather valuable information, convince, manipulate or gain strategic advantages. Mission preparation is essential: each piece of equipment, strategy or approach changes the way the challenge unfolds.
SCENARIO AND BACKGROUND
The story takes place during the Boshin War (1868-1869), a pivotal period when Japan oscillated between tradition and modernity. The player takes on the role of an orphaned child, scarred by the war and determined to take revenge on the Yôshido clan, a feared criminal organisation. To achieve his goals, he must infiltrate their ranks and discover the truth about the tragedy that wiped out his family.
In this world of betrayal and uncertain alliances, every decision counts. Should you pursue blind vengeance or seek justice? The choices made by the player influence not only the character's development, but also the outcome of the story.
MY WORK
This project was developed entirely on its own, from concept to programming, including animation and sound design. Emphasis was placed on level design to offer environments designed around exploration and infiltration, with several possible routes and verticality exploited to its full potential.
The animation has been carefully crafted to ensure perfect fluidity. Every movement of the character, whether walking, climbing or attacking, has been adjusted to give a natural, responsive feel. Thanks to precise management of transitions and interactions, the game maintains a dynamic and realistic pace, with every action responding instantly to the player's commands.
Developed between October 2022 and April 2023, this personal project is a demonstration of technical and artistic expertise, designed to deliver an immersive, fluid and engaging experience.
